Health Protection Network

The HPN is seen as a Network of existing professional networks in Health Protection across Scotland, with the aim of improving health protection services in Scotland, by bringing those working in this field together in ways which facilitate learning from each other in a structured manner.

Although not truly a Managed Clinical Network (MCN) as it is neither strictly clinical nor does it manage services, HPN should follow the MCN model.

It should be built around professional activities rather than around an institutional or organisational authority.

It was noted that existing networks or professional groups should have clear reasons to join the HPN.

The HPN should therefore:

  • show evidence of benefits and service improvement through coordination
  • provide channels of communication for joint working arrangements across a range of professional groups
