Guidance Development 
The HPN firstly based its approach to produce guidance in the principles developed by SIGN methodology (SIGN 50).
Other evidence-based methodologies (GRADE system, NICE methodology, AGREE instrument for appraisal of guidelines) have been later integrated into the HPN methodology to consider the specific challenges that Public Health for communicable diseases brings to the methods of collecting, appraising and interpreting the evidence.
