Network Organisational Arrangements 
The Health Protection Network Steering Group should represent the core disciplines participating in the Health Protection Network, with clear commitment to represent national and local priorities across Scotland. As the Steering Group (SG) has representation from each of the professionals bodies who form part of the health protection community in Scotland (see membership), the SG is also constituted by:
- Chairs or lead authors of HPN working groups, if not already members
- Others with specialist interests co-opted as needed
Leadership. The Network Chair.
A Lead Specialist with a sessional appointment leads the Network Steering Group and champions the Network. The post is always be open to specialists from any of the key disciplines participating in the Health Protection Network.
- Prof. Bill Carman (Director, West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre) is currently the Chair of the HPN
Network Coordinator
HPS will support and facilitate the activities of the Network. The HPN Coordinator will support the Lead Specialist and Steering Group in developing the network, as well as promote evidence based practice across disciplines.
- Dr Alex Sánchez-Vivar is the current Coordinator of the HPN
Administration
Appropriate administrative and secretarial support is also provided through HPS.
- Maggie Macdonald provides current administrative support to the network
Support for the Network's information management, web site and communications facilities will be provided by HPS as part of their knowledge management and communications strategies.
As a professional national network within NHSScotland, the Health Protection Network must have clarity of management, a defined structure, a multi-disciplinary and multi-professional representation, and a clear policy on governance and quality assurance.
Accountability and Reporting
The HPN Steering Group reports to the Health Protection Advisory Group (HPAG) on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland,
- By the production of an HPN Review of Activities:
- Submitted to HPAG
- Copied to NHS Boards, HPS and all constituent bodies
- Published on HPS website
- Through the HPN Chair as a member of the HPAG
