The Outbreak Control Team (OCT) consider that the outbreak is now over, therefore there will be no further update to the numbers below. A full outbreak report will be made available on the HPS website in spring 2011.
Any patient who is diagnosed with anthrax on the basis of clinical suspicion (not necessarily laboratory testing) should still be notified to NHS boards, who in turn will advise HPS. This information will be published weekly in the Statutory Notification of Infectious Diseases section of the HPS Weekly Report. The OCT believe that the possibility of anthrax contamination must now be considered an ongoing risk to those using heroin.
