Anthrax Among People Who Inject Drugs(PWID)

Anthrax associated with injecting drug use was first reported in a Norwegian drug user in 2000. Thereafter, further cases were reported in Scotland and England during an outbreak in 2009 and 2010. Since then, a small number of cases have been reported across a number of European Countries (Scotland, England, Wales, Germany,Denmark and France).
The following documents were prepared in response to the outbreak of anthrax among drug users in Scotland during 2009-2010.Some have been updated in light of new cases since June 2012 in Scotland, England, Wales, Germany, Denmark and France.
