Occupational transmission of HIV. Summary of published reports. March 2005 Edition. Data to the end of December 2002. 01 Mar 2005

Since the first case of documented seroconversion after a specific occupational exposure to HIV was reported in 1984, national or regional systems for the surveillance of occupationally acquired HIV infection were developed in most of the countries mentioned in the summary tables in this document. These tables contain details of all the published cases of occupationally acquired HIV infection of which we are aware, but the true incidence of occupationally acquired HIV infection is unknown, and is likely to be much higher.
