Care Bundles for Preventing Surgical Site Infections (SSI)
Surgical Site Infections (SSI) arise when sufficient microorganisms enter the surgical
site during the procedure to overwhelm the host's natural defence mechanisms.
Microorganisms can originate from the patient's skin, dispersed from healthcare workers in the
operating theatre, unsterile instruments, or via the blood when the patient has
a pre-existing infection.
