The data represents in close to real time an indication of the impact norovirus ward closures are having on NHSScotland and are made available to all NHS Boards and others for outbreak preparedness and impact assessment.
Norovirus, also known as winter vomiting, has the biggest impact on hospitals during the winter months.
To be of optimal use to the service, the data must be updated frequently and released promptly, therefore the data will be released on a Thursday from data gathered from all NHS Boards on a Monday.
