HAI Outbreak Surveillance

Background

In November 2002 a pilot was established with the aim of collecting data on the numbers and types of Healthcare Associated Infection outbreaks, the numbers of patients and staff affected, the aetiology and the control measures implemented. After reporting in August 2003 the pilot was implemented as a full surveillance system. A report on the fully implemented surveillance project was produced in September 2004. The current system uses paper forms for collection of data. View an HAI outbreak report paper form.

A web-based reporting system has been developed and a pilot study is currently underway. The protocol for web-based HAI outbreak reporting system is available. The pilot report will be produced in the near future and will be available on this site.
