The programme of surveillance of Surgical Site Infection (SSI) commenced in April 2002 and was mandatory in Acute Divisions carrying out neurosurgical procedures.
According to the latest HDL (2006) 38, neurosurgery surgical site infection surveillance is now included in the voluntary list of procedures found in the SSHAIP Protocol and is therefore no longer mandatory.
For further information on this programme contact Sonja Millar in the first instance.
Project Manager: Mrs Abigail Mullings, Consultant Nurse Epidemiologist, National HAI Surveillance
