Information on Setting Triggers or Action Warning Limits for Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI) in wards and clinical settings 14 Nov 2014

The HPS Guidance on the Prevention and Control of Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI) in Healthcare Settings in Scotland was updated in October 2014.

Section 2.2.2 Surveillance, of the HPS guidance includes the following recommendations for local surveillance systems on the setting of CDI triggers:

  • Determine the ward-, unit- or facility-specific baseline incidence of CDI by reviewing cases of recent and previous periods (IB).
  • Define a threshold incidence (or frequency) of CDI cases that would trigger implementation of additional infection control measures (interventions) (IB).
