Scottish National Healthcare Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Prescribing Prevalence Survey: An information guide for staff 01 Sep 2011

Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality in the hospital population. The additional costs arising from treatment of HAI places a significant burden on healthcare resources. The first Scottish National HAI Prevalence Survey was carried out in 2005/2006.

HPS, on behalf of the Scottish Government Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) Taskforce, is implementing a second national prevalence survey of HAI and antimicrobial prescribing in Scotland in acute hospitals and non-acute hospitals.

This leaflet explains why there is a need for a second survey, the aims and objectives, how it will be carried out, and how it will be reported.
