The HPS Library Mission Statement
"To support HPS's mission ("to work, in partnership with others, to protect the Scottish public from being exposed to hazards which damage their health and to limit any impact on health when such exposures cannot be avoided") by ensuring access to all necessary information resources and building an effective, shared knowledge base for the organisation and its stakeholders."
HPS library primarily services the information needs of staff through a wide-ranging collection of textbooks, journals, CD-roms and on-line resources. Moreover, the library is available as a reference resource to external students and staff of NHS boards and environmental groups throughout Scotland. Borrowing and photocopy requests from external users must however be channelled through users' own library services.
HPS Library also provides current awareness services with continuous scanning of journals, epidemiological reports and other media. Current awareness bulletins are emailed both internally and to external stakeholders (NSS.HPSlibrary@nhs.net for further details). The contents of these bulletins are subsequently accessible through the library catalogue.
The library is staffed from 09.30-12.00 and 14.00-17.00 Monday to Friday. External users should make an appointment before calling to use the collection.
