Use of Chlorine Releasing Agents (hypochlorite) in Healthcare Settings 02 Dec 2008

Research on the efficacy of disinfectants and detergents indicate that certain routinely used products are ineffective against some emerging infectious agents such as Clostridium difficile, rotavirus and noroviruses and therefore special consideration may have to be given to the choice of disinfectant used for decontamination of the environment during outbreaks of these pathogens.

The efficacy of chlorine releasing agents for inactivation of Clostridium difficile spores has been reported within recent publications and reviewed in this document.
