National Influenza Report

Welcome to the HPS influenza update for the 2017/2018 season.

Updates will be based on an interpretation of data from the Scottish Influenza Surveillance Reporting system SISRS in addition to other data sources e.g. routine laboratory information, calls to NHS24, swab results from the sentinel swabbing scheme, all cause mortality, vaccine uptake estimates and respiratory outbreak information from NHS boards.
Links to summaries from other UK, European and International surveillance systems are also provided as these give additional useful detail and insight on the global influenza picture.

For the 2017/18 influenza season we have changed the format of our weekly report to simplify the content of it and make it easier to visually identify whether flu activity is increasing, what the impact of flu is and who is being affected most. As the season progresses further detailed information on the surveillance indicators we routinely review each week will be included as required. An overall assessment of the level of flu and other seasonal respiratory pathogens (e.g. Respiratory Syncytial Virus, Adenovirus, Coronavirus etc) which cause flu-like illness will be provided.

The archive of the Influenza Situation Reports produced as part of the Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 reporting can be found in the Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 section.
