Publication Date: 26 May 2020

In recent years, the gonococcal bacterium has developed antimicrobial resistance to all previous antibiotics used to treat it. This means that the surveillance of antibiotic resistance is essential for guiding the choice of effective therapeutic regimens for gonorrhoea infection.

This report presents data on antimicrobial resistance among gonococcal isolates detected in Scotland in 2019 from the Scottish Bacterial Sexually Transmitted Infections Reference Laboratory (SBSTIRL).
