HIV infection in Scotland: Quarterly report to 30 June 2018

From January to June 2018, NHS Scotland laboratories reported positive HIV-antibody test results for 139 individuals not previously recorded as HIV-positive (Table 1). The cumulative total of known HIV-positive individuals ever reported in Scotland is now 9195, of whom 6756 (73%) are male and 2439 (27%) are female.

Allowing for the migration of an estimated 1576 infected people, those who have not attended for more than ten years (226), and for the 2180 (24%) known to have died, it is estimated that there are currently 5213 individuals living in Scotland who have been diagnosed HIV-positive.
