NSS Time to Clean Report

Recent Healthcare Environment Inspectorate (HEI) Annual Reports highlighted consistently poor standard of cleaning in some NHSScotland hospital departments. Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) recommend that NHS boards should be establishing systems to ensure sufficient ‘time to clean’ between patients and for routine cleaning.

In response to this Health Protection Scotland (HPS) and Health Fa​​cilities Scotland (HFS) undertook studies:

• HPS - gathering evidence to estimate time to clean communal reusable patient care equipment
  
• HFS - the development of a domestic system which estimates the time required for domestic services to clean the ​healthcare environment.
